Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to bring Ukraine to its “strongest possible strength” this year on his first trip to Kiev as prime minister.
He said the UK would “never give up” on providing Ukraine with the necessary support as it signed a 100-year historic partnership pact with Ukraine, Downing Street said.
“Today is a truly historic day, our relations are closer than ever,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters.
The agreement formalizes the economic and military support already promised to the country.
Zelensky is seeking to strengthen security guarantees from key allies amid fears that the new US administration of Donald Trump may begin to pressure Ukraine to make peace with Russia.
