Former German President Hors Kohler died at the age of 81.
The Kosovo message in Germany has expressed condolences for his death.
Germany said in office that the deceased experienced the most important moments in history, including the independence of Kosovo in 2008.
“Leadership, his vision and commitment to Germany and the international community will not forget,” said the message.
Kohler died on Saturday morning in Berlin after a short illness, surrounded by his family, in a statement by the current German President Frank-Dhaaler Steinmeier.
Kohler was elected president before Merkel came to power at a time when Germany tried to agree to the labor market reforms and good cuts. He said the Germans should not rely on past successes and “deeply convinced that Germany has the strength to change”.
In July 2005, Kohler agreed to distribute the parliament and to give the then Chancellor Gerhard Schroder before early elections. He explained that Germany is facing “huge challenges” and that “our future and future of our children is in danger”.
Köhler, the son of German farmers from Romania, was born on February 22, 1943 in Skierbieszo in Nazis in Poland. His family fled to Germany after the war – first in Leipzig in the east of communist Germany, then in West Germany in 1954.
Before Kohler rose the presidency, he had a long record as an efficient backstage officer.
From the early 1980s, he worked for more than a decade in the Ministry of Finance under Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who once called him “a treasure” and relied on economic diplomacy.
